Black Friday: Some love it, some despise it.  But there is one thing that we can all agree on; it’s crazy.  Here are 10 tips to help you make it through alive.

1. Get in and get out:
The longer you stay in the store the more caught up you’re going to be and the more money you will spend on silly items.

2. Wait until Cyber Monday:
Shopping in the store can be stressful and frustrating.  Plan on shopping online on Cyber Monday which is the Monday immediately following Black Friday where store websites will hold sales. Most of the time the deals are the same if not better.

3. Make a list:
Know who are you shopping for, what you plan on buying and how much money you are willing to spend.  That way, you do not overspend or forget to buy anything.

4. Remain calm:
Black Friday shopping is supposed to be an enjoyable experience for everyone.  Try to avoid becoming the infamous shopzilla clawing through the lines to purchase that sacred item.  If the item is sold out, keep your cool.  It will be okay.

5. Divide and conquer:
If you have a lot to buy in a little time, bring your friends.  Divide up by store or aisle.  Create a plan that gets the job done.

6. Beware of time limits:
Sometimes stores only hold the sale from 12am-6am.  If that’s the case, then make sure to get there early. If you would rather sleep in, look for the item at another store.

7. Be safe:
It’s better to be safe than sorry.  People are crazy, especially around the holidays.  Make sure to have a charged cell phone with you at all times, just in case of an emergency.

8. Prioritize:
Pick a few things that you know you cannot go home without and limit yourself to just those items. Figure out what do you really need.

9. Read the fine print:
Sometimes stores only have a limited number of the item or require you to pay the shipping fee.  Stores will make you jump through all kinds of hoops to get what you want.

10. Be friendly:
After all, it is the holiday season.  Be kind to people and you will have a better chance of getting what you want.  ‘Tis the season for giving. While you’re out, why not pick up something to donate to a charity?

Here are a few local charities that are accepting donations during the holidays:
