Wolfram Alpha

Wolfram Alpha is a preloaded app on KHS’ newly provided iPads. This app is a digital almanac as well a calculator in one. Rather than using the internet for browsing, Wolfram Alpha uses its own knowledge, which is based on specific sources of data to keep the answers precise.

When you open the app, you are met with a simple interface with a search bar on top. Wolfram Alpha has a semi-complicated keyboard with both letters and many other useful characters such as the greek alphabet. With one simple swipe from the left to the right, a separate interface appears that can help you discover many examples of how to use Wolfram Alpha based on different subjects.

Whether you are using this app to figure out the square root of eight, the size of America or where a certain restaurant is, Wolfram Alpha can help you with almost anything. The best thing this app can do is give you data and info about mostly anything. One cool feature allows you to favorite searches, which gives you the ability to revisit the most useful of your past research. Buying the premium app allows people to enter a picture straight into the app and get instant analysis, such as a graph of your pictures contrast in colors.

Wolfram Alpha can provide, no matter what circumstance.

Evernote vs. Notability

Evernote or Notability, that is the question. If you are looking for a note-taking app to use regularly, then you have a choice to make. There are two preloaded note-taking apps on the iPads, each one with its benefits, and flaws of course.

Evernote, the more complicated of the two, contains a host of features, a lot of which have to do with the 5 MP camera on the iPad mini. For example, a user of Evernote is able to take pictures of post-it notes, documents or business cards and automatically archive them. You can later find these saved notes by searching by the information on the post-it, document or business card. Evernote is a great app for lots of organized notes, specifically for projects, considering you can share your notes with multiple people through the app’s virtual sharing system.

Notability, on the other hand, is great for quick notes that want to be taken during class due to the fact you can take documents from other apps and import them into a new or existing note.

You can then overlay other media or your own drawings and notes on top. The fact you can layer your notes and draw makes Notability the best app for quick note-taking.

Evernote and Notability both have successes and their faults. Luckily, we have both for all circumstances.
