Mike Bales run rock and roll
The first Mike Bales Run Rock and Roll will take place Saturday, Oct 18 at 7 a.m. in Lyons Stadium. There will be both a 5K and a 1-Mile Fun Run in memory of Mike Bales, former school resource officer and director of safety and security in the Kirkwood School District, who died in 2012.
The 5K will begin after the one- mile race, and the route is currently undetermined. There will be a DJ providing music and food at the event. All proceeds raised will go to the Mike Bales Scholarship Fund, a scholarship or KHS students interested in law enforcement careers.
Teri Bales, widow of Bales, is seeking volunteers to help with the event, run or walk in the race. Interested parties should contact Chad Walton, at [email protected] or by calling his office at (314) 213-6100 extension 1192. There will be more information available as the race gets closer.
“Mike was very dedicated as a police officer,” Walton said. “He gave the same dedication and consideration to the kids at Kirkwood High School and the community. A lot of people loved him and he is dearly missed.”
Your donation will support the student journalists of Kirkwood High School. Your contribution will allow us to purchase equipment and cover our annual website hosting costs.

Hi Ben. Grab that AP Style Book you have handy and check out that there is no such thing as a First Annual event. The event has to be in its second year to garner the use of “annual.” It should be called “the first” or “the inaugural” if it is the first time an event is being held.
You guys and gals do a great job at The Call, the best high school newspaper in the nation. How do I know? I was on the staff 1976-78.
