I’m getting antsy even as I write this because of how excited I am to be back at school. The majority of students dread going back, but not me. I mean, what’s so awful about waking up to see the sun rise then sitting in a soft, comfortable chair for seven hours straight, five days a week? Sounds like heaven to me.

I don’t understand why people get so hyped up for summer in the first place. I mean, it’s not that special. Tropical Moose and The Custard Station are nothing compared to the whole grain Pop-Tarts and reduced fat Cheez-Its in the vending machines at KHS. Also, vacations are overrated. This summer, dozens of kids traveled to countries such as Spain, Peru and Germany. But why go to these countries when you can get a more beneficial learning experience in your world language and social studies classes? Besides, it’s cheaper. And there’s no fun in lounging by the pool all day. I know I’d rather take Aquatics 1 with Coach Beasley in the natatorium.

Another thing I look forward to during school is finals. Finals aren’t difficult and certainly aren’t stressful. Trying to remember how to do a Pre Calculus formula I learned four months ago is what I live for, and I’m really going to miss all the vocabulary quizzes I took in AP English Language and Composition (juniors, you’re in for a treat). Quizzes and tests are my favorite part of school and part of the reason I despise summer.

Instead of tests and quizzes, we have summer work over our break, which is very enjoyable. The minute school got out in May, I rushed home and began my summer work. I was so glad that the two 300-page books I had to read weren’t boring at all, especially “How to Read Literature Like a Professor.” Homework is definitely another one of my favorite parts about school that I miss in the summer.

I just love having to do seven different subjects of homework in one night, then wake up the next morning and do the whole routine over again.

Being a senior, I have the privilege of going to lunch off-campus, but I’ll pass. I can’t risk being away from school any longer when the weekends are as long as they are. And why would I want to leave when I can eat cold pizza and vegetables from the cafeteria? They are just off the charts. Sometimes my mom packs my lunch, but I secretly give it all away and buy cafeteria food instead because it’s delicious.

I’m just so happy to be back in these sometimes hot and sometimes freezing classrooms writing essays on my iPad (without the keyboard, of course) and listening to sick people sneeze and cough all around me. At least I know I won’t get any tardies, thanks to that whole extra minute we have during passing period. Glad the hallways aren’t crowded either, that would make school a whole lot worse.

I hate to say it, but I have to stop writing this. I’m wasting away precious time that I could be using to finish my homework and studying, and you’re wasting time by reading it.
