No go for hoco

Hoco
Everyone’s talking about it. The dresses, the date, the after party, and you’re watching it all from Instagram. Don’t get too down in the dumps though, you’re one among many. Plenty of students at KHS opt out from homecoming, be it the cost, the time commitment or the thought of being packed in a gym with hundreds of other teenagers.  “I’m not going to homecoming because I don’t have much of an interest in it, and there are no people I want to go with,” Bela Cseri, sophomore, said.  Claire Wacker, sophomore, also plans on skipping the dance.  “For one reason, it’s at Webster, and I don’t feel like going out there. It’s too much of a hassle, you have to spend so much time and money.”

There’s no need to sit at home watching endless amounts of Netflix and eating ice cream when there’s plenty of other things you could be doing. Here’s a list of activities that’ll keep you from a pity party the whole night.

  • Have a movie marathon: Break out your favorite series, pop some popcorn and you’re set! Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings…even Twilight.
  • Go out on the town: Dress up, grab a few other friends who aren’t going to hoco and go out. You don’t have to worry about awkward run-ins with other kids from school. You can check out a new movie or a cool place to eat or shop. Since you didn’t buy a dress or a corsage, you’ve got plenty of money to spend.
  • Create Something: Draw, write, make something good to eat. You have the spare time on your hands, so why not?
  • Catch up on homework: Your teachers will be thankful you did, and when everyone is stressing out on Sunday night, you can spend your evening watching Netflix and a getting a good night’s sleep.
  • Stalk your crush on social media: If all else fails, stalk your crush on Instagram, Facebook or any other social media of choice. If watching your crush enjoying their night without you is getting you down though, google your favorite celebrity instead.
