Look what we made her do

Taylor Swift’s new album, “Reputation,” is scheduled to be released Nov. 10, 2018. It will be her sixth album and her third pop album. Her first two singles, “Look What You Made Me Do” and “…Ready For It?” have a common theme: revenge. These releases have also come with strong feelings about the album, many either liking or disliking Swift and her new music.

KHS Opinions

“I really like Taylor, but I’m not a fan of her new singles. I’m excited for “Reputation” and I will definitely listen to the whole thing, I’m sure I will find songs that I like. It’s cool because the last time she released new music I was a freshman and now I’m a senior.” -Sydney Scott, senior

“I like her old music so much better. “Look What You Made Me Do” is so annoying.” -Hannah Taylor, sophomore

“I like her new singles, they are different from her other songs. I’m excited to see if “Reputation” is similar to her new singles.” -Allison Geeting, freshman

“T-Swiftie? I hate her. I’ve always found her so annoying, even when she sang country.” -Nicholas Clark, sophomore.

“I was excited [for “Reputation”] until I heard her new singles. I personally don’t like them and think they are a downgrade from her old music. Now I’m going to have to be forced to listen to her new album.” -Grace Jaeger, senior

“I think the first three songs [of “Reputation”] will be about revenge, but the other songs will be like her other ones. I think she’s just pretending to change for publicity.” -Madeline Pozaric, freshman

“Taylor Swift gets too much hate for writing about love and breakups. All of Justin Bieber’s songs are about that stuff, and no one cares.” -Emma Roberts, sophomore

“Oh I like Taylor Swift. I like her music. The Ryan Adams cover of her last album is so good. She’s super talented, the Ryan Adams cover of Wildest Dreams is great.” -Randy Kriewall, algebra teacher

Theories and Symbols

Taylor Swift’s last album was entitled “1989,” the year she was born. 1989 was the year of the snake… coincidence?

iTunes has confirmed that there will be 15 tracks on “Reputation.” At the end of the “Look What You Made Me Do” music video, there were 15 “Taylor”s.  Could each one represent a song on the album? (@TaylorSwiftv201 on Twitter)

Rumors say that the fourth song on the album will be over nine minutes long. Could this be “All Too Well” part two? (@Britt_Elsye8 on Twitter)

At the end of the “Look What You Made Me Do” music video, a version of Taylor is seen wearing the same dress from the 2009 VMAs, where Kanye West stole the microphone from her. She says, “I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative, one I never asked to be a part of,” referencing the phone conversation she held with West about his “Famous” music video. In the “Look What You Made Me Do” music video, Swift is seen lying in a bathtub full of jewels. To the left of her shoulder a one dollar bill can be seen, a possible reference to the $1 she won in the sexual assault lawsuit against a former radio DJ from Colorado.

In one scene of the “Look What You Made Me Do” music video, Swift stands in front of eight male backup dancers, all wearing crop tops that say “I Heart TS.” These eight dancers could represent the eight high-profile relationships she has been in, and the crop tops could be a nod towards Calvin Harris’s embarrassing tank top he wore in 2016.
