Whether you’re spending your Valentine’s Day alone or just looking for some self love, these activities are perfect for you to raise your dopamine levels and boost your confidence.
Going to the gym: To start off, one of my favorite activities for some self care is going to the gym. Spending an hour or two just focusing on yourself can be really beneficial for the mind and body, especially if it’s accompanied by a fire playlist blasting in your Airpods. Even if you don’t have a gym membership, simply taking a walk around your neighborhood is just as healthy. Exercising releases endorphins to boost your mood and reduces certain hormones that cause stress in your brain such as cortisol. You experience a great feeling of accomplishment and control that helps amplify self esteem.
Finding a new recipe: Another great thing to do this Valentine’s Day is finding a recipe for a new meal or a delicious baked good. Whether you do it alone or with a friend, cooking is a great way of stepping out of your comfort zone. You also get an amazing snack out of it! You can find recipes and inspiration on TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest or YouTube.
Spa day: With Valentine’s Day taking place during the trenches of winter, it falls during the most depressing time of year. Whether it’s the piles of school work or the miserable weather, you deserve a relaxing spa day. To boost your mental health, going out and getting your nails done or getting a massage, finishes the job. Unfortunately, these activities are pretty expensive so simply just taking a hot bath and scrolling on TikTok for a few hours does the trick. Spending some time alone promotes mindfulness and comfort and is productive to your mental health. Even just lazing about on the couch to watch your favorite rom-com is well deserved after long semesters of AP classes and tests.
Finally, Valentine’s Day isn’t always just about a romantic partner. It’s important to not only appreciate yourself but the people around you. Writing a note to your mom or buying flowers for your grandma can really brighten someone’s day. Spend the day appreciating what you have and the people you surround yourself with and tell them you love them.
