Help fom our peers: John Drury

The Kirkwood Call wanted to hear what John Drury, a single sophomore, had to say about the relationships he has formed at KHS.

The Kirkwood Call: Why do you think people feel the need to have friends?

John Drury: “Probably because it’s high school and everybody feels like popularity is important. They feel the need to fit in to have fun.”

TKC: What are the qualities you look for in a friend?

JD: “Smart, funny, fun to be around but serious when they need to be.”

TKC: Why do you have friends and why do you want them?

JD: “I feel like I’m nice to people, and I have fun so I think people think that’s good. I want friends because it would be boring all alone.”

TKC: What do you think of guys and girls being friends at this age?

JD: “I think it can be good in some cases and bad in others. It can be good in the cases of later making more of [your friendship] or you can keep it how it is. It can be bad because people might not have the same opinion on what their relationship is at that time.”

TKC: How do you think it might help being friends with both guys and girls in the future to interact with others?

JD: “I think it is really good because then you learn how people are different and you get to experience talking to different people and being around different people.”

TKC: Are you happy being single?

JD: “Yeah, for right now. I don’t have the stress of being in a relationship because I have a lot other commitments that take up time.”
