LIFE of a Pioneer: first parking pass

From the first day of freshman year to graduation, students pass through milestone events to mark their ways through the treacherous journey that is high school. Here are some of the most common.

When students are finally juniors, they are able to purchase their first parking pass. However, with limited space at KHS, one must have the pass to park in a parking lot.

The Essex and Dougherty Ferry parking lots are only open to juniors and seniors. For Joey Mundschenk, junior, buying the $20 parking pass was a memorable experience.

“I thought it was going to be awesome. I was going to get to finally drive myself to school so it was a pretty cool experience [getting the parking pass],” Mundschenk said. “What ended up happening was some days there weren’t enough spots.”

Along with frustration from juniors about not finding a spot, sophomores face the difficulty of finding a spot on the street.

“On some mornings it’s frustrating because as the year goes on, more and more sophomores are going to get their license,” Averie Fuller, sophomore said. “When you go to school, there are going to be more people [parking].”

A parking pass is meant to guarantee a spot, but there is still difficulty for some juniors, like Mundschenk, to find a spot in the Essex lot.  Even though students look forward to buying their first parking pass, some are still forced to park on the street if they do not arrive early enough.
