The College Board announced Advanced Placement (AP) exams will take place online for the 2019-2020 school year due to COVID-19.

The College Board announced Advanced Placement (AP) exams will take place online for the 2019-2020 school year due to COVID-19. The College Board stated on their website Friday, March 20 that students will be able to take a 45-minute test at home through any device, including phones. Exams will only test over content that was covered by early March. The College Board is investigating potential complications to online testing, such as cheating prevention and internet access. The exams will be free-response only — no multiple choice — and focus on content that “can’t be learned from Google or chats with friends” according to a tweet by Senior Vice President of AP and Instruction Trevor Packer. Exam-specific details will be released April 3.

According to Missouri Commissioner of Education Dr. Margie Vandeven and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), all Missouri standardized tests will be canceled for the remainder of the school year effective immediately. This includes Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) and End of Course (EOC) tests. Missouri will apply for a federal assessment waiver and DESE stated there will be an update soon. DESE said they are also looking into solutions for students in the A+ program that are graduating seniors who may still need to complete an assessment.

The College Board canceled the May 2 SAT and March 28 makeup test. The next SAT testing dates are June 6 and Aug. 29. The College Board is also looking into adding another international testing date during the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. The April 4 ACT exam is postponed until June 13. Students signed up for this date can expect an email with instructions on how to reschedule without fees to the June 13 date or another national test date.
