The (inferior) school we love (to hate)

Reese’s Pieces

As a writer and a devoted sports enthusiast, I never allow my personal allegiances to get in the way of my work. So even as a diehard supporter of KHS, I would never speak lowly of Webster Groves gangs athletic teams.

I hold the utmost esteem for their soft respectable football team and commend them for playing at such a crappy historic venue as Dead Moss Field. Not to mention their fans, who represent the pinnacle of academic failure success and thickheadedness class. Of course, there have been some blemishes on their record, but what else would you expect from a bunch of wild banshees such a long-standing rivalry.

In 1938, massive riots disagreements broke out between students at both schools, which resulted in the creation of the homecoming Friendship Dance and led to the suspension of the Turkey Day Game for the next four years. Not to mention another fight that broke out in 2008 during a district playoff game at Kirkwood after eight Webster players belligerently decided to ignite an argument with KHS supporters, though the game was between KHS and Parkway Central. These players, which included six starters, were rightfully suspended for their next game against Vianney.

Despite this, unlike many fellow KHS supporters, I think Webster holds disgusting rich traditions, even with their annual custom of burning a fake Pioneer football player during their Turkey Day cult gathering bonfire. I think this is a barbaric healthy way to keep school spirit flowing through the Godless veins of Webster students.Screen shot 2015-01-29 at 2.24.47 PM

No matter what sport, Kirkwood vs. Webster is sure to bring foul play a fantastic atmosphere. So when KHS plays the hoodlum-laiden talented Webster basketball team at home Feb. 20, it’s sure to be a grudge match great game. And no matter what the score, the entirety of Webster’s team is bound to get wasted celebrate their achievements afterwards.

Though it may seem like the class-skipping, boomerang-living, Young Thug listening Statesmen have matched KHS success in sports this year, we at Kirkwood still hope they get jobs continue to keep the rivalry fresh and relevant.

And take the Echo with them.
