13 secret menu items for The Daily Bread Bakery & Cafe

As the daughter of a locally owned restaurant, I’m often asked questions regarding what’s best on the menu or if I can get people free cookies. It isn’t often that I’m asked, ‘What is the secret menu at the Daily Bread?’ It is universally known that most restaurants have food choices not actually listed on the menu. Learning the secret menu will provide you with the ins and outs to The Daily Bread Bakery & Cafe.

1. Tomato Basil Flatbread – $5.95

The Tomato Basil Flatbread is a personal favorite of mine. It is a flatbread, essentially pizza dough, glazed with olive oil with added layers of mozzarella cheese, tomatoes and basil.  If you don’t want to feel guilty about eating pizza, this is the most savory replacement.

2. Getting your salad chopped – FREE

If you ever feel like you are eating a salad and you can’t fit a whole bite into your mouth, then this is perfect for your order. If you order your salad chopped, then after it is made, it will be cut up into easier to eat pieces.

3. Getting your salad tossed – FREE

Similarly to getting your salad chopped, you can also get it tossed. If you are lazy like I am, you can get your salad both chopped and tossed with your favorite salad dressing. That way when you are super hungry, your salad is ready to eat right when they call your name.

4. You can essentially build your own sandwich – Varies

If you pick any sandwich off the menu, you are able to take off or add any of the ingredients you would like. For example, if you order a turkey sandwich, you can take off the extra lettuce or tomatoes or add more to fit your liking. Some addition ingredients will cost you.

5. Grilled cheese – $4.95

Especially if you are looking for something kid friendly or simple, then this would be for you. Although not listed, you can actually order a grilled cheese with your choice of bread toasted fresh in the oven. Not only this, but as a kid’s meal, it comes with a fountain drink and chips.

6. Ordering from catering – Varies

There actually is a different Daily Bread menu for catering orders than there is for walk-in customers. If you wanted something like potato salad, you can ask the cashier if there is any available in catering, and they will be happy to check for you.

7. Making yourself an Arnold Palmer – $1.75

This is one of my favorite things to do when I want something to drink with my meal. With the large variety of unsweetened teas, you may drink it anyway you like, adding sugar or a lemon. Most often, I get the unsweetened peach tea and put a dash of lemonade in it.

8. Calling in your order so you don’t have to wait in line

Calling in your order is one of the best tips for this restaurant. If you want your order to-go, call the cafe ((314) 909-0010) about 20 minutes before showing up. You will be able to skip the lunch rush line that usually ends out the door, and get your meal much quicker.

9. Avocado Toast – $3

If you are looking for a healthier option for breakfast, try ordering avocado toast. Having avocado for sandwiches, they actually will let you order this. Choose your favorite type of bread for them to slice, toast and spread avocado on top.

10. Summer BLT – $8.95

Bacon, lettuce, avocado, sprouts, and tomatoes (also known as BLAST), is a fan favorite. Although it is on the summer menu, you still can order it year round. There is a classic BLT on the menu, but the extra avocado and sprouts make it that much better.

11. Adding chicken, bacon, beef strips or salmon for $2.75

Much like being able to customize your own meals, you can actually add these meats to whatever you eat. At an additional cost of only $2.75, meat lovers will able to layer their favorites for extra flavor.

12. Kids Bagel Melt adding pepperoni or sausage for $1

Pizza bagels are one of Daily Bread’s most popular items, but what customers don’t know is that you can actually customize it. Usually coming as a plain cheese pizza bagel, you may add meat for only $1.

13. Smoked Salmon on multigrain bread with lettuce and tomato and avocado (owner’s personal favorite) – $9.70

Being able to customize your own sandwich, Patrick Judd, my father and owner of The Daily Bread wanted to share his own personal favorite sandwich. He encourages everyone to try and enjoy these tips and tricks.
