McWoods breaks school record

Eric McWoods worked his way into the KHS record books Monday Oct. 14, scoring his 76th career goal. McWoods passed Gary Conner (75 career goals) with his 29th goal of the season en route to a 1-0 victory over Trinity.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to have broken a record that [has been held for] 30 years by a well-respected, hall of fame athlete,” McWoods, senior, said.

Conner, elected into the KHS Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009, graduated in 1983 and went on to play at University of Clemson, where he was a member of the 1984 National Championship team.

“I worked hard to get the record, but my teammates and coaching staff supported me the most and were a big reason why I got [it],” McWoods said.

McWoods leads the Suburban South Conference with 29 goals and, paired with his two assists, has accumulated 60 total points. The four-year varsity starter will be taking his talents to Xavier University next year on a full-ride scholarship.

“I’m really excited. I can’t wait to play with one of the top programs around, but also compete in one of the best conferences in the country,” McWoods said.

McWoods, who played as part of the U.S. Olympic Developmental Program last year, said one of his 76 career goals does not stick out from the rest, even with eight game-winning scores so far this year.

“My most memorable [goals] are probably all the ones against Webster,” McWoods said.
