McWoods named All-American

Varsity soccer forward Eric McWoods, senior, received All-American honors by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). He is one of seven athletes in KHS history to be named All-American, joining the likes of basketball player George Thornton, football and track athlete Alvin Miller, diver Tom Kenyon, football player Keith Angel, swimmer Angela Pfeifer and football player Darrell Lee.

McWoods joins two others from Missouri who qualified as All-Americans in 2013. The NSCAA recognized Recca Dominic, senior from St. Dominic High School, and Keith Grieshaber, senior from Marquette High School.

In addition to being named All-American this season, McWoods set school records for most goals scored in a game (5), most goals scored in a season (40) and most career goals (87). McWoods, a four-year varsity starter, was also selected to the NSCAA All-Regional team and received First Team All-State honors as a junior. He verbally committed to playing Division I soccer at Xavier University, where he plans to major in Business Communications.

“The fan base [at Xavier] is crazy,” McWoods said. “I’m going to be playing against some of the top players in the country, so I’m really excited for the opportunity.”

Despite the attention McWoods has received as an All-American, he said he will remain focused. During the offseason, McWoods participates in club soccer, basketball and track.

“I was pretty calm about [being named All-American]. I didn’t really get too excited about it,” McWoods said. “I felt good, but it’s just something that I can’t settle on. I’m just gonna keep working.”
