The varsity girls’ basketball team saw its record-setting season end at sectionals.
After winning their district championship Feb. 24 against Cor Jesu Academy 67-55, the girls headed to sectionals. They played Fort Zumwalt West Feb. 29, losing 48-40.
“We’ve had good players every year, but this year we had a good team,” Brad Sutterer, head coach, said. “I think we played our best and couldn’t have asked for more.”
The girls’ team broke the KHS all-time win record, going 25-4.
“I had high expectations for this year, and they were delivered,” Sutterer said. “We had five returning starting seniors. That moment when we hit the 25 win mark was amazing.”
A prominent player for the team was Lianna Doty, who broke four individual records, including most rebounds.
“Not one of us made the team. It took all of us girls to get to where we did,” Doty, a senior, said. “Although we were stopped short, everyone played their hearts out.”
Despite the loss suffered by the team, they still have won two district titles together.
“I will never forget this group of girls. Despite our trials and tribulations, I feel like this was a second family. But it’s time for the next chapter of our lives,” Dajae Williams, senior, said.
