A Letter Home

Alex Matheis, sophomore, began his computer applications assignment like any other. What started as a routine project ended in a way that has never happened before.

The task was to write a business letter to someone you admire. Matheis, who expressed an interest to enter the business world, wrote to Warren Buffett’s home address thinking that was it. That was not the case.

“I got mail from Omaha, Nebraska, and knew it could only be from one person,” Matheis said in an interview with KSDK Channel 5. “I was surprised because he’s a busy man.”

Sure enough Matheis received a personal letter from Buffett, thanking him for his initial letter. Although Matheis enjoys video games, sports and the Cardinals, his love for finance and Buffett’s philosophy is what sets him apart from some of his friends. When he received the letter, he did not immediately tell his friends.

“For now I’m keeping it in a safe place,” Matheis said. “One day I’ll frame it and have it in my office.”
