Seven students have been recognized as National Merit Semifinalists. These seniors, recognized because of their consistent academic excellence are Aubrey Beltran, Sophia Benoit, Daniel Berry, Devan Coggan, Sarah Beth Comfort, Charlie Longtine and Tony Makovec. In late January, 1,300 students across the nation will be notified they are finalists. Winners are chosen, without bias, based on abilities, skills and accomplishments, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Teacher recommendations, test scores and the leadership displayed by the students are also taken into account. By being recognized as a Nation Merit Finalist, scholarship money is rewarded, as well as the prestige that comes with it.
