2022 has brought us songs that will be listened to for years to come.

“Bigger Than The Whole Sky”- Taylor Swift

This heart-wrenching song released on Oct. 25th is proof that non-single songs are severely underappreciated. This song was referenced in Swift’s song “Bejeweled”, with the lyrics “Sadness became my whole sky.” Many people can relate to the song’s themes of grief and sadness. Swift’s hauntingly gentle vocals are just the thing to let those stored-away tears flow. Swift’s hauntingly gentle vocals are just the thing to let those stored-away tears flow

“It’s Ok”- Imagine Dragons

Coming from the band’s fifth studio album “Mercury Acts 1 & 2”, “It’s Ok”, is an empowering pop-rock song that resonates with anyone who is struggling in their life. According to band member Dan Reynolds, the song sends a message of acceptance to those within the LGBTQ+ community.

“Dare To Love Me”- Avril Lavigne

“Dare To Love Me” is a vulnerable ballad about one of the questions you might ask yourself in a relationship: “Do they really love me?” Lavigne at first did not want to include this song on her latest album “Love Sux” because she felt it didn’t blend well with the rest of the songs. She explained how her fans support any type of music she makes, which motivated her to release the song.

Best lyrics: “I try to let down my guard, but I cover up my scars”/ “Yeah, there’s no denyin’”/ “It’s not that I don’t care, it’s just I’m scared.”

“Tornado Warnings”- Sabrina Carpenter

Everyone who is familiar with Olivia Rodrigo and her album Sour will know Carpenter’s name from her infamous relationship with Joshua Bassett, Rodrigo’s ex. She based the title of this song off of  a moment when she ignored an actual tornado warning on her phone while in the park. The title of the song is also a metaphor for the turmoil Carpenter went through caused by the backlash she received from Rodrigo’s fans.

Best lyrics: “He didn’t hold me in his arms” / “We didn’t stumble over the pages of our relationship arc” / “Ignoring tornado warnings.”

“Superwoman”- Meghan Trainor

Feeling inadequate? This song’s lyrics might just describe those inner thoughts you have when you feel like you’re not living up to your true potential. Trainor said she tries to make her songs relatable that make her fans feel seen. She wrote this song for her album “Takin It Back,” which features her TikTok famous song, “Made You Look”. This album is Trainor’s first since giving birth to her son, Riley.
