Police Beat 10/15 - 10/21

On Monday, 10-15-2012, at 3:03 p.m. police were contacted by a resident from
St Charles regarding the fraudulent use of a credit card. The victim reported
finding three fraudulent charges, each for $200, from August 2012 on her credit
card account. The victim was still in possession of the credit card. The fraudulent
charges were made at a retail business in the 1200 block of South Kirkwood
Road.

On Monday, 10-15-2012, at 8:17 p.m. officers responded to a residence in the
100 block of East Clinton for a report of fraud. The resident discovered a credit
card stolen and two fraudulent charges made online during the month of October.
The charges were to pay a Sprint cell phone bill. Combined, the two charges
totaled nearly $1,000.

On Tuesday, 10-16-2012, beginning at 9:33 a.m. police received two separate
reports of thefts from vehicles. The first was reported at a residence in the
500 block of Mistletoe and the second was at a residence in the 800 block
of Poinsetta. Both incidents occurred during the overnight hours. Archery
equipment was stolen from both vehicles which were left unlocked.

On Wednesday, 10-17-2012, at 9:15 a.m. officers on patrol in the area of
800 South Holmes in Oakland recognized an adult walking as having multiple
outstanding warrants. Police attempted to arrest the adult who then fled from
officers. He was caught a short distance away and arrested. He later admitted
to stealing a bicycle in a previously reported theft from the 200 block of Pullman
during the week of 10-01-2012.

On Wednesday, 10-17-2012, at 12:20 p.m. a resident from the 500 block of
North Crescent arrived home to find the residence burglarized. The burglar
damaged a rear door and made entry to the home. A jar full of loose change was
stolen.

On Wednesday, 10-17-2012, at 8:15 p.m. police responded to a motor vehicle
accident on South Kirkwood Road near the Union Pacific Railroad. One vehicle
left the roadway and became stuck on the railroad tracks. Investigation led
to the arrest of the adult driver after she was found to be driving under the
influence of alcohol. The vehicle was moved from the railroad prior to any trains
passing through the area.

On Thursday, 10-18-2012, at 2:14 p.m. officers were notified of a residential
burglary in the 100 block of North Harrison. The resident left for thirty minutes
and returned home to find someone entered through an unlocked door and stole
numerous electronics.

On Thursday, 10-18-2012, at 10:08 p.m. a resident from the 100 block of East
Clinton notified police she had fallen victim to a phone scam. The victim received
a phone call from a person identifying themselves as one of her co-workers. The
co-worker stated they were in jail and needed bond money to be released from
jail. The resident wired $1800 to Colorado only to find out later the person was
not in jail.

On Friday, 10-19-2012, at 7:22 a.m. police responded to a disturbance on
Melshire Court in Oakland. A resident reported being approached by an irate
neighbor who was shouting profanities and threatening him with two knives. The
neighbor was arrested by police for unlawful use of a weapon. The case was
presented to the St Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office where one charge
of Unlawful Use of a Weapon was issued against Craig Gotsch, 51 years of age,
of Melshire Court in Oakland. He was transferred to the St Louis County Jail and
held on $25,000 bond.

On Saturday, 10-20-2012, at 12:18 p.m. a resident from the 300 block of East
Adams called police to report property damage. A window on a relative’s vehicle
was broken out sometime during the previous overnight hours.

On Saturday, 10-20-2012, at 4:19 p.m. officers responded to the 1300 block
of Timberbrook for a report of theft. The resident reported a credit card stolen
from his unlocked vehicle during the previous overnight hours. The credit card
was then used at three different businesses during the early morning hours. The
three purchases combined totaled less than $100.

On Sunday, 10-21-2012, at 5:17 p.m. police were summoned to a retail business
in the 1000 block of South Kirkwood Road for a report of shoplifting. Employees
witnessed an adult attempt to leave the business without paying for merchandise
in his possession. He was arrested for felony stealing due to having at least two
prior theft-related convictions. The case will be referred to the St Louis County
Prosecuting attorney’s Office for review.
