Police Beat: 4/1-4/7

On Monday 04-01-2013 at 8:45 a.m. police responded for report of a burglary in
the 100 block of West Rosehill. The resident advised the only thing missing was
a bowl containing approximately $150 in change taken while he was out of town
over the previous weekend.

On Monday 04-01-2013 at 8:57 a.m. police were called to the 100 block of West
Washington for two thefts from vehicles. Two company trucks were broken into
sometime over the weekend. Tools were taken from both trucks.

On Tuesday 04-02-2013 at 7:51 a.m. unknown persons entered an unlocked
garage in the 1700 block of Kimkirk and entered two unlocked vehicles. A Tom-
Tom brand GPS, smartphone chargers, and an Illinois Tollway I-Pass were stolen
from the two vehicles.

On Thursday, 04-04-2013, at 9:56 p.m. the Kirkwood Police Department received
a call of a disturbance in the 300 block of Electric Street. When officers arrived
they learned a 21-year-old female had sustained a non-life threatening stab
wound to the torso after being involved in a disturbance. She was transported to
a local hospital and received treatment for her injuries.

On Friday, 04-05-2013 at 2:20 p.m. police responded to the 11000 block of Big
Bend for a delayed report of theft of jewelry. The resident reported approximately
$30,000 of jewelry missing from the residence. The jewelry was stolen sometime
between January and March of this year.

On Sunday, 04-07-2013 at 10:13 p.m. police responded to a burglary in the
1000 block of Lacouer Drive. A kitchen window was forced open and several
electronics, to include a TV, Macbook, and a Kindle, were stolen. Jewelry and the
victim’s purse were also stolen from the residence.

Kirkwood Police were contacted by two Kirkwood residents who had fallen
victim to phone scams. The first victim was called by someone claiming to be
her grandson who was in jail. The person requested money for bond to get out
of jail. The other victim was contacted by phone and advised he had won a                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     sweepstakes. In both incidents the victims purchased pre-paid credit cards and                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   gave the callers the card numbers over the phone. The funds were immediately                                                                                                                                                                                                                      withdrawn from the accounts. Kirkwood Police wish to remind everyone of these                                                                                                                                                                                                                            types of scams and to be cautious of calls from individuals requesting money.

Kirkwood Police arrested seven adults for shoplifting merchandise from area
businesses during the week of Monday, 04-01-2013, through Sunday, 04-07-
2013. The incidents occurred at retail stores in the 1200 block of South Kirkwood
Road.

During the week of 04-01-2013 through 04-07-2013 police issued trespassing
summons on two different occasions for subjects walking along the railroad
tracks. The Kirkwood Police want to remind everyone that train tracks are for
trains, not people, and it is considered trespassing to be on railroad property.

From Monday, 04-01-2013, through Sunday, 04-07-2013, Kirkwood Police took
an additional sixteen reports of identity-theft related to the Schnucks grocery
chain credit and debit card security breach. All of the incidents involved the
victim’s credit card accounts being used in other states for purchases of various
amounts.
