When most students get down on the dance floor, it is usually not for a good cause. But this Friday, Kirkwood Youth Service (KYS) will be using dancing to help a school in Zambia.
“The theme is Blacklights and Raves and if people want to partake, they have to raise money,” Olivia Meiners, senior and KYS member, said.
According to Haley Reinkemeyer, sophomore, KYS members hope to have 100 participants raise $50 each through contributions from others for their dancing, to raise a grand total of $5,000 for the Dance 4 Lifesong fundraiser.
“The money is going to support one school in Africa. We were contacted two months ago by a high school student in Illinois,” Bob Becker, KYS sponsor, said about Kendall Ciesemier, senior at Wheaton High School.
This is one of the larger events KYS has planned. In most fundraisers KYS plans the club collects more than expected, or in the case of the canned food drive, it beats Webster.
