When she’s not busy working at Schnucks, watching WWE or doing TikTok dances, Morgan Trembath, senior, can usually be found making friends as part of the Best Buddies program. Trembath has been in the club since middle school, and said her favorite part is spending time with her friends, her closest being Gia Borbonus, senior and president of Best Buddies.

“Morgan is very energetic, super caring and fun to be around,” Borbonus said. “Her ability to make people smile is incredible, [which is] why I think I’m such good friends with her.”

Best Buddies meets every month during homeroom. Trembath looks forward to the meetings, Borbonus said, because she is able to meet new people and form connections.

“It’s hard to connect here at Kirkwood because it’s [such a big school],” Tami Melton, alternative learning teacher, said. “[Best Buddies] provides a social outlet that’s not guided by adults, and forms lifelong friendships.”

Not only does Trembath form connections with her peers; she is also close with her teachers. Melton has known Trembath since she was a freshman, and she said she’s like Trembath’s school mom.

“She’s my girl,” Melton said. “She’ll tell me she loves me, [and] if she ever needs anything, [or] when she’s feeling sick, she’ll usually come and see me.”

Though Trembath spends half of the school day learning job skills and working at Schnucks, she doesn’t miss out on KHS’s various social activities. She is always back for lunch, dance class and has time for Best Buddies and Circle of Friends.

“Morgan loves dance class,” Josh Gift, special education teacher, said. “She likes doing TikTok dances, [but] she tells me it’s embarrassing when I start doing them.”

Gift said that Best Buddies is important because it allows students to work on their social skills. He said that Trembath is friendly, empathetic and gets along with everyone easily.

“Morgan’s future is bright,” Melton said. “She brings joy wherever she goes, and she likes to be here at school [with] her friends.”
