Music and the mind

Music+and+the+mind

Grab some comfy clothes, a snack and your homework and get down to business, but wait, don’t forget to turn on the homework music playlist. Many might think that music can be distracting and unpleasant during a time of much needed mental power. However, many studies are bringing evidence about that concludes music may be able to help with study skills.

The right kind of music can enable the mind to relax to help one concentrate, according to UNC Charlotte and University City’s website. Although the top pop songs on the radio are catchy they will not help concentration.

At this point some may be wondering what the best type of music to listen to. It is wise to first pick a genre of music that is calm and soothing such as Vivaldi and ambient sounds. This will be the music that relaxes your mind to allow maximum concentration.

In an article published online by Directly Journal, their advice for listening to music while doing homework is to find a song with a fast beat. This will help to get a task, such as researching or typing up a paper, done swifty.

In addition, before turning on the music, make a plan of how you are going approach homework and studying. What needs to be done first, how much time is needed on a subject, etc. Having a plan can allow homework to be more productive.

A few safety rules do apply when listening to music. Keep the level of volume down low enough that you can still hear it but not too loud as to blast out your eardrums.

Although this type of studying might not work for everyone, it could still be worth a try if someone is in need of help with their homework.
