Missouri governor Jay Nixon visited KHS today to promote the A+ Schools Program, which offers free college tuition for selected Missouri schools to students who meet the grade and mentoring requirements during their four years in high school. Upon arriving at approximately 2 p.m, Nixon briefly visited classrooms on a tour led by David Holley, principal, and Tom Williams, superintendent. After briefly chatting with students, Nixon hosted a press conference in the Donald Duchek library, speaking on the importance of public education and affordable tuition for college.
“This program gives students an opportunity they otherwise wouldn’t have,” Nixon said. “The opportunity during school to mentor other students, to keep up with their grades, to have great attendance. For those students who meet this rigorous test, we will guarantee you two years at a community or technical school, tuition and books free.”
