My ins and outs of 2024

This show some of the ins and outs featured throughout this story.

If you have been on TikTok the past month, you’ve seen the trend where people share their “ins and outs” for the new year. The videos are lists of trends that should stay or go, or their goals that they want to accomplish in 2024. Here’s my take of the trend, with my list of ins and outs of 2024.

INS

Outfit repeating– My first in is repeating outfits. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard someone say, “didn’t you wear that sweatshirt on Monday?” Where did this expectation of having new, never before seen outfits every week come from? I shouldn’t be questioning if it’s too recent to wear a sweatshirt because I’m worried people will notice. Lizzie Mcguire once said, “I may be an outfit repeater, but you’re an outfit rememberer, which is way more pathetic!” In 2024, let’s normalize not judging people for repeating their outfits.

FaceTime– Yes, it’s a little less convenient than texting, but Facetime is an in for me. Unlike texting, you’re able to understand the tone and attitude of the person you’re talking to. And let’s not forget those filters they have on the app too. Facetime is the new texting.

Nail polish– It’s no surprise as to why going to get your nails done is popular, but if you’ve dropped at least 100 dollars on one appointment, you’re not alone. Sometimes it’s nice to treat yourself, but no one ever talks about how convenient nail polish is. It’s so much cheaper and faster plus you get a fun, colorful manicure without the stress of needing to get them done.

Drinking water– Water is so underrated. If you have a headache, drink water. Your stomach hurts, drink water. Make it fun by drinking out of your Stanley, Yeti or the classic HydroFlask.

Mixing gold and silver jewelry– One thing I’ve seen a lot more people doing recently that didn’t used to be popular is mixing gold and silver jewelry. Mixing the two should be a trend because people could have favorites of each and should be able to mix them without judgment.

Are you a silver or gold person?

OUTS

Cuffed sweatpants- Starting off strong with cuffed sweatpants. Wearing cuffed sweatpants just isn’t enjoyable. They look cheap compared to uncuffed sweatpants. When I’m wearing cuffed sweatpants I have to go through the struggle of pushing them back down to my ankles every time I get up. They aren’t practical and we shouldn’t go into the new year with them as a trend.

10 year olds in Sephora – Recently, 10-year-olds on TikTok have been getting bashed for ravaging up and down Sephora aisles. Every time I go, there’s always a group of them huddled around some anti-aging serum that they don’t need. All they do is run around acting like they are above everyone else and they need to be stopped.

Dry texters- One of my biggest red flags in people is when they are dry texters. Do you want to know if you’re one of the infuriating few? One word responses, periods and no indication of your tone are all symptoms of being a dry texter. If that applies to you, try to add some pizzazz to your texting this year.

Snapchat streaks– Snapchat streaks are so useless. They shouldn’t be the cause of arguments in friendships and relationships which is why it is one of my outs. Especially the people who snap you with the “S” on their screen, just to keep the streak. They are just unnecessary.

Do you keep Snapchat streaks?

Dupe shaming- I am a big fan of dupes. Dupe is short for duplicate, which is an item that is similar to a higher end item and most of the time, you can’t tell the difference. Why are we judging people just because of the brand name or packaging? Dupe shaming has a very definite spot on my outs list.
