Police Beat: 12/16-12/22
On Monday, December 16, 2013, at 2:04 p.m. police arrested an adult suspect
for attempting to pass $400 in counterfeit bills to purchase items at a retail store
in the 1200 block of South Kirkwood Road. The case was referred to the St Louis
County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review.
On Monday, December 16, 2013, at 8:17 p.m. police responded to an alarm at
a business in the 12300 block of Old Big Bend. Upon arrival officers discovered
a cinder block had been thrown through the front glass doors of the business.
Police checked the business with the owner and it appeared nothing was
disturbed or stolen inside the business.
On Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at 5:26 a.m. officers responded to Kirkwood
High School, 801 West Essex, for a report of gun shots and glass breakage at
the school. Officers arrived and quickly determined that no shots were being
actively fired and that no was reporting any injuries. Several neighboring police
departments along with the Missouri Highway Patrol and members of the United
States Marshall’s Service assisted in establishing a safe perimeter around the
school. After a systematic and through search of the school officers located a
box of halogen light bulbs that had fallen and broken which mimicked the sound
of gunfire.
On Wednesday, December 18, 2013, beginning at 6:56 a.m. police received
several reports of property damage to vehicles. The damage consisted of
profanities on the vehicles made with window marker. Locations of the damage
included the 300 block of Altus Place, 900 block of Nirk, 300 block of Crest, 700
block of Elmtree, and 1800 block of Bach.
On Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at 12:30 p.m. officers were dispatched to
the 1200 block of South Kirkwood Road for a report of a possible theft from a
vehicle. A witness reported several car alarms sounding at the same time on the
parking lot. Officers arrived and located one vehicle had been broken into but
nothing was stolen. Officers located two other vehicles parked in the 100 block
of South Kirkwood Road that had been broken into. One vehicle had nothing
stolen but the other had a stereo and Christmas presents stolen.
On Thursday, December 19, 2013, at 8:37 p.m. police were contacted by a
homeowner in the 500 block of Bedford Oaks wishing to report a theft. The
resident reported two copper downspouts were stolen from the home sometime
within the past week.
On Friday, 12-20-2013, at 7:17 a.m. police received a report of an adult looking
into vehicles parked on the lot of a retail store in the 1200 block of South
Kirkwood Road. Officers located two adults on the lot. No thefts were located
by police but both were arrested after they were found to be in possession of
illegal narcotics. The case will be referred to the St Louis County Prosecuting
Attorney’s office for review.
On Friday, 12-20-2013, at 11:49 a.m. officers were summoned to a business in
the 600 block of West Woodbine for a theft report. The victim reported having a
bag stolen after it was left unattended inside of a business she was patronizing.
The bag contained a cell phone, cash, and credit cards.
On Sunday, 12-22-2013, at 8:28 p.m. officers were dispatched to a residence
in the 200 block of South Ballas for a report of an attempt burglary. The
homeowner was home when he heard glass break at the rear of the home. The
homeowner investigated and found a screen removed and a window broken. No
entry was made to the home.
