KHS Principal Dr. Mike Havener announced his retirement effective at the end of the school year Oct. 14. Havener has worked in KSD for 29 years and has been KHS principal for 12 years.

“There’s sadness. There’s excitement,” Havener said. “You don’t really know what’s ahead. [Being principal has] been great — I’ve enjoyed my time. It’s a lot of work, so I’m looking forward to family time.”

Currently, there is no one in line for taking over Havener’s role. Havener said he is not involved with the hiring process.

“It’s going to be fine, we’ll find somebody,” Havener said. “It’s going to be okay. Everybody can be replaced, so they’ll find somebody great.”
