Second annual Kirkwood throwers meet

Wednesday, April 17, 2013, Kirkwood High School hosted the second Annual Kirkwood Throwers Meet. Over 90 athletes from seven high school teams competed in shot put and discus in this year’s meet. First, second, and third place medals were awarded to boys and girls at freshman, junior varsity and varsity levels. Kirkwood School District provided pizza for all the athletes participating and Kirkwood athletes contributed side dishes for the event.

“The Kirkwood throwers meet is unique in that athletes who participate in shot put or discus events have an opportunity to shine,” said April Maldonado, girls throwing coach. “Many times at a meet the throwers area are not always close enough to the track for spectators to see the events. Our goal was to give throwers the spotlight and based on the feed back we were successful.”
