Police Beat: 8/26-9/1
On Friday, August 23, 2013, the Children’s Advocacy Services of Greater St
Louis held a grand opening at its newest location located at 121 West Monroe
Avenue in Kirkwood. The Children’s Advocacy Center plays a vital role to law
enforcement by providing child-sensitive forensic interviews. They also help in
both treatment and therapy recovery of traumatic events suffered by children to
include physical abuse, childhood sexual abuse, and neglect.
On Monday, August 26, 2013 at 3:20 p.m. police received a report of identity
theft from a resident in the 700 block of North Clay. The victim discovered a loan
was applied for and granted over the internet using her maiden name.
On Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 2:23 p.m. police handled a report of theft from
a vehicle in the 100 block of South Sappington in Oakland. Electronic items and
sunglasses were stolen from an unlocked vehicle over the weekend while the
vehicle was parked in the driveway.
On Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 4:07 p.m. officers responded to a motor vehicle
crash near the intersection of East Monroe and South Fillmore. Officers found one
vehicle had struck a parked vehicle in the roadway. Investigation led to the arrest
of the adult driver for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. The case was
referred to municipal court.
On Wednesday August 28, 2013 at 6:41 p.m. police received several reports of
shots being fired near the 300 block of New York. Police arrived and discovered
several shots had been fired near the intersection of Orleans and Meacham
towards a residence in the 400 block of New York. The residence was hit three
times by gunfire and a canine in the yard of the home was killed. A second
residence in the 400 block of New York was also found to have been struck
by gunfire. A vehicle parked in the 300 block of New York also sustained two
broken windows from gunfire. No person was injured as a result of the shooting.
Officers arrested two individuals within hours of the shooting. The case was
presented to the St Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review on
Thursday, 08-29-2013. Marcus Tatum, 29 years of age, of the 400 block of
Saratoga, and Daron Parker, 19 years of age, of the 400 block of South Holmes
were each charged with one count of Assault 1st
Action. Both were transferred to the St Louis County Jail and held on $125,000
bond.
On Friday, August 30, 2013, an adult’s bicycle was found in the 300 block of
South Taylor. The bicycle was brought to the police station awaiting owner.
On Saturday, August 30, 2013 at 2:33 a.m. police responded to the 300 block
of West Jefferson for a vehicle crash involving an intoxicated driver and two
parked vehicles. The adult driver was arrested and charged with driving while
intoxicated. The case was referred to municipal court.
Kirkwood Police arrested four adults for shoplifting merchandise from an area
business during the week of Monday, 08-26-2013, through Sunday, 09-01-2013.
All incidents occurred at a retail store in the 1200 block of South Kirkwood Road.
Three of the cases were referred to municipal court. The fourth case resulted in a
felony stealing and resisting arrest which was referred to state court.
