The Pioneer hockey squad overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat the lancers of Lafayette High School. A sluggish 15 minutes saw the pioneers down 2-0 at the end of the first period. Midway into the second, after a quick start, the Pioneers bounced back. Jake Siegel, junior, scored his first goal of the season on a rebound shot by Zac Day.

The pioneers kept on moving, playing with an offensive mentality, pinning the Lafayette defense in their zone. After continuous pressure, the Pioneers struck again. Kole Mudra, or “Moody” as the fans call him, rocketed a snap shot top-shelf, to even the score.

As the third period rolled around, the Lancers were gaining momentum and threatening to score. A silly miscue from the Lafayette defense led to another goal for the Pioneers. Landon Fuller, freshman led the rush flying down the left wing. Entering the zone he looked for the pass, but instead decided to shoot. He found his shot find the back of the net and give Kirkwood their first lead of the game.

The game would end with the Pioneers on top, 3-2 improving their record to 3-3.

The Pioneer Hockey teams’s next game is Friday the 28th when they face the Webster High School Skatesmen in the annual hockey Turkey Day game at Webster Ice Arena with the puck drop at 12:30.
