Do’s and don’ts for valentines day

Every year on Valentines day the problem of awkward dates is an epidemic for men that can not be cured. This is a helpful list of what you gentlemen should do and what you shouldn’t do while on a date with your special someone.  Follow these simple guidelines and your date should be ok.

DO:

  • Hold the door open, no matter what (except for revolving doors that will not end successfully).
  • Pay for everything even if your date tries to pull out their own money. Sometimes they just want to test you, and not seem like a spoiled snob expecting you to pay.
  • Pull out her chair for her when she goes to sit down, and remember to push it back in.
  • Take them somewhere nice or interesting, not a dive bar.
  • Pick them up on time, but don’t show up 15 minutes early, they won’t be ready.
  • Keep conversation going and stay away from talking about weather.
  • Wear appropriate attire for the place you are taking your date.
  • Napkins go in your lap not your collar.
  • Use proper etiquette, (ex: no slurping, don’t chew with an open mouth, swallow completely).
  • Let them order what they want, including desserts.

Don’t:

  • Playing with your gum at any point in time is absolutely not ok.
  • When choosing what music to listen to stick with popular hits. If you ask what your date would like to hear, she most likely will say she doesn’t care, even if she does, she doesn’t want to be rude.
  • Don’t comment on what your date is wearing, (whether they look amazing or ridiculous) it’s not a good choice.
  • If it’s the first date don’t try and kiss them, you don’t want to put them on the spot and create an uncomfortable outcome.
  • Don’t be on your phone at all. Make sure to make eye contact.
  • Do not check out other women unless you want her to leave.
  • Past relationships are in the past for a reason. So don’t bring it up.
  • Gas of any kind is a no go.
  • Be careful about how much cologne you use too much can overwhelm her…..in a bad way.
  • Dirty jokes should stay out of the conversation. Even if they laugh she still died a little on the inside when they heard it.
  • Don’t crack any body part.
  • Weird things that you can do with your body should stay personal.
  • Don’t watch and laugh if they spill something on them-self try to help but don’t be obnoxious.
  • Don’t be obnoxious.
