With the Playstation 4 (PS4) dropping Nov. 15 and the Xbox One a week later Nov. 22, the great debate of which to purchase is getting heated as the days count down. Presentation’s were given by each company at the E3 gaming conference Jun. 11-13 in Los Angeles, which gave information ranging from pricing to systematics. Yet, the main pros and cons of each system are what separate them between the buyers.

PS4

Pro- Starting at $400, the PS4 instantly draws buyers in with its $100 difference to the Xbox One ($500).

Pro- The release date of Nov. 15 is a huge deal because it allows the undecided gamer time to see what the PS4 has. The early release date shows how much Sony wants to get the new console out to its dedicated gamers.

Pro- This console, like the PS3, has a built in Blu-Ray player for those who want another package built in with a primary gaming console. This saves entertainment lovers the hassle of buying a Blu-Ray player in addition to the system.

Pro- The PS4 has the ability to perform background downloads, which allows the player to download a game while still using the console for another task. Yet, the PS4 is designed to be able to understand the kind of person using the console then go and automatically download games it believes the person would enjoy.

Pro- The console has a 500GB storing system which allows the game to have a great deal of storage for any downloadable content.

Con- Unlike its earlier generation, the PS4 will require a Playstation Plus account in order to play games online, which will cost about $5 a month.

Con- For the hardcore gamers, availability of headsets to make multiplayer gaming and chatting with friends easier will not be as good or powerful as the Xbox One.

The PS4’s most anticipated games include: “InFamous Second Son,” “Destiny” and “Watchdogs.”

Xbox One

Pro- The $500 base price includes the Kinect, an Xbox feature that allows the gamer to use their body as the controller instead of the traditional buttons. These games attract people who want to get more involved with the console.

Pro- The introduction of a built in Blu-Ray player to the Xbox One evens the playing field with PS4, and the 500GB hard drive also is equal to that of the PS4.

Pro- For “Call of Duty” fanboys, Microsoft, Activision and Infinity Ward still have an agreement that brings downloadable content to the Xbox before any other console, which is huge.

Pro- The headsets are a key factor that pushes hardcore gamers over to the Xbox One because it allows a greater interaction with friends and the game itself.

Pro- Xbox Live Gold is back and shows it will be the favorite for gamers who look to play with their friends and enjoy promotions that comes with Xbox Live Gold.

Con- Starting at $500, the Xbox One is already hurting a buyer’s wallet with the $100 difference.

Con- The Kinect is a device that creates a kind of Big Brother feel to the user because it is always watching you whenever you use the console.

Con- With the Xbox One’s controller the need and requirement to buy batteries for the controller could be a hassle with money. Yet, the alternative of buying rechargeable batteries or a charger is still an option.

The Xbox One’s most anticipated games include: “Titanfall,” “Ryse” and “Deadrising 3.”

Review: After looking over all the inclusions each system presents, the PS4 is where I’m putting my money. The overall look and gameplay of the system pushes me away from my Xbox 360 and back to my PS2 roots. The PS4 is a steal for $400 and should be one of the most bought entertainment items purchased this winter.
